This is the authoritative work on the subject. Since the boxwood and ivory rules made by several manufacturers during the late 19th and early 20th Century were all quite similar, this book, though devoted to the Stanley brand, also serves as a comprehensive survey of the entire industry. Everything about these very attractive measuring devices is covered in great depth here, and, as they are now avidly collected, it's just the kind of information the collector/enthusiast wants. The book is beautifully produced, with photos of every Stanley rule printed on high quality paper, with extensive background information, descriptions, dates offered, analysis of materials and a complete history of the Stanley company. By a fortuitous coincidence the author just happens to be named Stanley, though he isn't related to the Stanley company he so thoroughly profiles. This is the best book you can buy on Stanley rules.
