Antique COURSE RECKONER C1880. J. W. STRANGE, BANGOR, MAINE
A rare marine instrument patented by J. W. Strange 1876. The company was an innovative metal manufacturer that patented a number of devices in the late nineteenth century.
The instrument combines a protractor and a T-square which enables the navigator to use a single instrument to set the desired course rather than a separate protractor and ruler.
Finished in the original gilt lacquer over brass.
405 mm long. Protractor 100 mm. diameter.
