"L'Alidade Nivelatrice" is a device used by French artillerists, army engineers, cartographers, explorers, and surveyors to measure angles and heights at a distance
It would be mounted on a tripod or a plane mapping table and leveled with the built-in spirit level using leveling levers
Then the distant object would be sighted through the upright arms, measurements taken, and map lines drawn
Wood base with stainless steel metal parts and screws
Length is 9-1/4 in
Wood body with folding sights. Instruction label on the underside in French
This allidade was made by the Society Des Lunetiers, a craftsmen's guild in Paris

The instrument is in very good, working condition
Bubble level appears accurate, sighting line wire is missing but can be replaced
Scales are very readable
Apparently during WW I & WW II these types of instruments were used to sight in grenade launchers
Very few around I have only found one other at Skinners Auction in Boston with estimate $150.00 - $200.00
