Antique The JNO.J.MITCHELL. CO. N.Y. Tailor's caliper or Clothes Ruler

A multi-use tool is specific to the garment industry. It was designed by the maker, The J.N.O. J. Mitchell Co., NY. It has a sliding "T" behind the main ruler (Probably for inserting in sleeves or legs of garments to secure fabric next to the wooden rule.)A really interesting piece.
It measures 7 x 14 fully extended.

The Jno. J. Mitchell Co., based in New York in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was a prominent supplier of tailor's tools and equipment, including specialized rulers and measuring devices essential for garment construction.
Tailor's caliper. Wood with brass fittings. Sliding arm, ruled to 7". T-shaped top arm, one corner broken, ruled to 7". Marked "THE JNO. J. MITCHELL CO. N. Y." Shaft ruled to 14". Plastic (celluloid?) rule on back, attached at only one point, ruled to 14".
