An early DOUBLE BLADE SHIPWRIGHT'S BEVEL by STEPHENS & CO
This item is in good antique condition with wear from use and long term storage including some staining,, light warping, other appropriate wear from use and surface dust/dirt

Very nice rare piece
It is marked with "No 31" and with "STEPHENS & CO" and with "RIVERTON CT" along one upper edge of the body.
Overall length of the body is about 12". It is graduated in 16ths of an inch on both sides.
It features the double brass blade.
The EAIA Directory lists L C Stephens & Company, or later Stephens & Company, as being in business in Riverton, Connecticut, from 1828 to 1901, and in 1901 they merged with H Chapin's Son & Company to become Chapin-Stephens.
L C Stephens was granted patent 19,105, on January 12, 1858, for his combined rule, square, bevel, and level. This patent was the basis for this rule, as well as rules subsequently made by Chapin-Stephens.
